Nestled within
the picturesque Taurus mountains and just minutes away from
Olu Deniz beach and famous blue lagoon lies the charming
resort of Hisarönü (it means 'Front of the Castle', and
refers to a local ruin).
The main base
for holidaymakers, Hisarönü has been transformed from a tiny
village into a complete resort. Happily it still remains
unspoilt, retaining its unique village charm by
sympathetically designing newer buildings to compliment
existing originals.
Hisarönü is
hugely popular with British visitors, English is very well
spoken by the locals with a variety of bars, restaurants and
nightlife. There is something for everyone of every age
which has helped it develop into a lively and friendly
resort with visitors returning year after year.

Olu Deniz is in
a league of its own for scenery and its turquoise lagoon and
sun bleached sands have adorned the front cover of holiday
brochures for years, quite rightly earning it the enviable
title of most photographed beach in the whole of Turkey.
The beach at
Olu Deniz offers a huge variety of water sports, there is
paragliding from Babadag Mountain onto the beach below, a
selection of boat trips departing regularly from Olu Deniz
or Fethiye for a day exploring the scenic coastline,
windsurfing, waterskiing and, in the shallow, clear waters
of the lagoon itself, scuba diving.
A complimentary
bus service runs daily from the apartment to the St.
Nicholas Genç Beach, at the lagoon.

Fethiye is a very pretty town at the
hillsides of Mount Mendos, part of the Taurus Mountain chain,
and surrounds the bay to which it gave its name. The naturally
protected harbour is a drop-by place for all yacht crews. The
area is also famous for the impressive Lycian rock tombs
(Amyntas Tomb) which are floodlit at night.
If you watch the fisherman in front of
Fethi Bey park you can see the Caretta Caretta
swimming around the boats between 9-10 am. The town has an
excellent Tuesday Market. This is the best place to buy all
those cheap fake designer labels and also good for souvenirs,
cheap CDs and fresh fruit sellers.
If a boat trip is
something you enjoy then Fethiye Harbour will accommodate as all the boats and
bookings can be dealt with there at very reasonable prices.

KayaKoy Village
neighbours Hisarönü and is also known as the "Ghost
Village". It was built and inhabited by the Greeks at the
beginning of the 20th century until the Turkish people drove
them out. It was left empty, and still is, as the Turkish
people wouldn't live there.
Visitors are
met by over 2000 deserted houses and a number of churches.
It's a fascinating place to visit and wander around the
abandoned buildings which were vacated during the population
exchange in 1923.
At the northern
entrance are superb panoramic views of Kaya Valley, towered
over by the magnificent Father Mountain (Babadag) to the
east. If you look around you on the journeys to and from
the village you will be able to see sections of the ancient
stone roads that were used to and from Fethiye.
